Is Overwatch Still Worth Playing in 2025?

If you’ve wondered whether Overwatch is still worth your time in 2025, you’re not alone. I ask myself the same question everytime I login at the end of a long day. The game has seen its ups and downs, but few first-person shooters match its charm, personality, and chaos. This week marked the start of Season 15 and with it comes the iconic return to 6v6. The question now evolves from “Is Overwatch still worth playing?” to “Is this the comeback fans have been waiting for?”

The 6v6 Revival

If you played Overwatch back in its prime, you know that 6v6 was more than a team size. It was an identity. Tanks had synergy, DPS had space, and supports weren’t just heal bots.

When Blizzard swapped to 5v5, things became unbalanced and messy. Solo tanking became a nightmare, balancing issues piled up, and team play suffered. I personally went form a tank and support main to just a support main because of how terrible tank gameplay is.

Blizzard after years of trying to make it all work is now calling the return of 6v6 their “boldest gameplay evolution yet.” In my opinion it’s their direct response to years of community feedback, aiming to bring back strategic depth, better pacing, and a return to what made the game fun in the first place.

What’s New in Season 15?

Beyond 6v6, Overwatch 2 is evolving with major updates…

  • New Maps & Hero Reworks
    • Adjustments to create a more balanced and engaging experience.
  • Competitive Mode Overhaul
    • Improvements to matchmaking and skill-based ranking.
  • PvE Content Expands
    • More cooperative modes to diversify the gameplay.

The start of this new season captures Blizzard’s emphasise on new innovation and excitement, showing they’re committed to making Overwatch feel fresh and even relevant again.

Should I Reinstall?

If you loved Overwatch before but quit after the 5v5 switch, it’s now the prime time to restart your hyperfixation and addiction. The 6v6 comeback is a huge deal for original players, but just as exciting for new players with fresh content and gameplay tweaks.

To it’s original fans Overwatch finally feels like it’s heading in the right direction.
